The Federer article by David Wallace was quite astonishing – though there have been great British sports writers, I cannot think of one who could have written with such insight and persistence. Your own writing and this Scoop site is such an antidote to the boring, predictable and poor journalism filling our daily paper here in Wellington. If only you did date scones and flat whites with it, I need not go out.

Thanks, Gordon, for the intelligent writing and the humour. It’s my favourite online read. I depend on it (and knitting) for my sanity. And what a fantastic meaty reading list to combat holiday inertia.
Do you ever speak in public? If not, please add that to your list of things to do for 2009. I’d buy a ticket.

Thanks for all Gordon. One wee correction -Sarah Palin still lives – in fact she rules as I predicted when she was selected vp candidate. She is the dream of frontier-less mineral oil, Alaska land of infinity. Hence Barack has become a mere cheerleader for pumping vast subsidies into the sunset auto industry.
Here’s a holiday hint folks: if you haven’t travelled on a train or a bus, take time to jump on one and go for a ride this holidays. Just go with the flow and you may well be rewarded with a fun, stimulating and refreshing experience. Adopt the lifestyle and you may avoid the bankruptcy confronting your car-addicted neighbours over the next few years.

Hey thanks for this Gordon and thanks for the blog. In this ‘crazy mixed up world’, blogs like this make all the difference.
So, when the Christmas presents are wrapped, relatives fed and watered,it will be great to be able to put my feet up with the laptop and dig into this list of recommendations.
